How do you stay productive when you work from home?

這是我需要的!
  • Get your work done as soon as you wake up. I have been incredibly productive between the hours of 6am and 10am, which is usually too early to play a game or do any fun activities.
  • Set mini-goals throughout the day and reward yourself with whatever you need to do. Obviously, doing the dishes is far from a reward, but reading a few pages from the novel you're reading is a great way to not only take a break, but keep your brain working.
  • Shower and get dressed. I don't have to be "dressed for work" but if I stay in my PJ's or sweats, nothing gets done.
  • Make sure that you have a door between your home office and the distractions (TV, kids, kitchen, etc.). Next, close the door.
  • Take frequent breaks. That means get up and walk away from the computer for 10 minutes or so. Clears the mind. And like GeoffCJ, I'm still far more productive than I ever was in the office.
  • Kiss a frog first thing in the morning. I.e., do your most-dreaded task first. After that you can relax a bit and things gets easier.
  • Have a routine, and regular working hours. Have lunch at the same time every day. Sure if it's sunny and your unemployed friend wants to have an impromptu bbq go (if you want to get fired, or loose money, idiot).
  • Have a seperate computer for work and leisure. Work mail and bookmarks should be a world away from your private ones.
